The Rising Opportunities in Indian Gaming Industry

It is a known fact that gaming is one of the most promising industries globally. The estimated value of the industry is around $300 million according to a report published by Accenture. A vast number of gaming companies has been part of the industry boom during the pandemic. The opportunities in the field of gaming have increased with more gaming studios and game development training institutes coming into existence.


India is a mobile-first country, making it one of the hotspots for the mobile gaming industry ahead of China and the USA. It is estimated that mobile gaming is expecting a growth of over three times the current market value of 1.5 billion by 2025. According to reports gaming in India had been boosted by the increase in smartphone sales and easy availability of the Internet across regions. 


Gaming as a career option is still not accepted among Indian parents. But the growth of the industry is a sure sign that game development and gaming will be a significant contributor to the growing world economy. The pandemic period has witnessed people being restricted to the four walls of homes, leading to a spike in gaming and other interactive media activities.


The gaming industry is demanding young and talented professionals as opportunities are widely available in the arena. Many acclaimed institutions in India like  Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC) – Mumbai, Arena Animation – New Delhi, and ICAT Design and media college - Chennai, are offering courses in game design. There are also several game developer training institutes offering training in Unity game development, one of the most in-demand game developer training courses in the industry.
       


Game development companies in India has welcomed the 2022 Union budget as the government has decided to invest in and promote the animation and gaming industry with different schemes like setting up the AVGC Promotion Task Force, 5G spectrum auctions and establishment of SEZs etc. This is a high time for both game software developers and budding talents interested in being part of this growing industry.


The online gaming sector is the next big thing in India with both foreign and domestic investments are lured into the industry. The trending concepts of metaverse and blockchain game development will be the driving factors for both the domestic and international gaming world. So, game developers, artists and gaming studios need to focus on these areas of gaming as they will have a major share in the expansion of the gaming market across the world.
