3D Animation

3D animation is the act of giving motion for 3-dimensional objects in a 3D environment. Creation and manipulation of 3D objects are done by 3D experts. They create and manipulate 3-dimensional models widely known as 3D objects using dedicated software and create motion effect by setting path and value of motion on objects nodes which creates a sense of movement for viewers. There are some unique processes that are used in the industry as a standard. Those are 3D modelling, creating the layout and animation and finally rendering. Modelling is the process of generating 3D assets, characters, environment and all other elements required for a scene. The defining layout is the process of placing the generated 3D assets in the modelling phase to the appropriate places according to the scene and animation is giving them life by making them move. Finally rendering is the end process where everything is synced including dialogue and audio and ready to export in the required format. The production phase of 3D graphics movies is the collection of several Modelling, layout, animation and rendering processes for a large number of scenes that make up a story. There are a ton of software available from reputed companies such as Autodesk Maya, 3Ds Max, 123D design, GNU Blender and so on.

3D animation is a time consuming and tedious task. It requires talented 3D artists, animators, scriptwriters, etc to successfully complete a project. Toy Story released in 1995 is the first commercial 3D animated movie in the world. It was created by Pixar animation studios and released by Walt Disney. 27 animators worked for Toy Story, using 400+ models to animate the characters. All the characters were drawn as an outline map with specific attributes before making them into 3D models. After the model creation, articulation and motion controls were coded; Each of these codes performs different characteristics of the characters such as walking, talking, running, jumping, etc. Woody- the main characters was the difficult one. He required 723 unique motion controls, including 212 for his face alone.
