Will Cloud Gaming Replace Conventional Gaming

The hobby of gaming is becoming an expensive one as new hardware or console is being launched every year. Upgrading your devices to the latest ones may empty your pocket very easily. So there must be a solution to enjoy the latest games with limited configurations.

Cloud gaming is the name taken to tackle this concern. The high-performance machines of the service providers will be used to run the game and the data will be stored in their servers. The game will be streamed live and only the output will be visible to the user’s device. So just as you enjoy a video on Youtube, you can enjoy your favourite game.

Nvidia’s GeForce Now, Sony’s PlayStation Now and Microsoft’s Project xCloud are some of the cloud gaming services through which you can enjoy the latest games. They are having monthly subscription plans by which you can access all the listed games with high-quality graphics. Game development companies are also now switching to this new direction of gaming. Sounds like a great solution to stop spending on the latest hardware, right?

But can it become the future of gaming? Are there any constraints for this technology? Actually yes, even though we say it does not require high-end consoles or PC, there are some factors that may hinder your gaming experience.

A high-speed internet connection is something which is mandatory. As it is a live streaming service you can’t enjoy the game without an internet connection with low latency. Whether it is an RPG or Racing game, you will need an uninterrupted network connection to make the most out of the game. High-speed internet is now available at affordable rates so let us not take this as a major concern.

The idea of cloud gaming is not a futuristic concept and the services are already available for countries like Canada and the USA. The amount of audience who are willing to take up these subscription plans is a crucial factor as it is very expensive to set up huge servers for each country.

Being an online service, the respective companies may request for certain access permissions. Each country has its own privacy policies were sharing data with these foreign companies may not become easily possible.

Considering all these factors we can’t say Cloud Gaming will be the one-stop solution for gaming in the future. Having the game installed on your device with all the data saved with yourself will always be the safest option. But how to manage the expenses on the hardware is still something which will need a solution.
