Gaming enthusiasts across the globe would be familiar with the word "Game Art." The characters and environments we see in a game are created by artists or illustrators, who often remain invisible while their work conquers heights.

Game Artist or Illustrator sounds to be a great job full of fun and creativity. But also a fair share of hard work adds to the quality of your work. The gaming artist is a part of the game from the pre-production stage and works with game designers to bring life to the game.

Who Should Choose Game Art as a Career?

The question that pops out all the time when game art is thought of as a career choice. A simple answer would be; anybody who loves to create art. People who love creativity and having an imaginative mind would also enjoy a career as a game artist.

Where to learn?

When it comes to basic artistic skills like drawing and colouring, you can learn yourself. In fact, with so many great online resources available in the form of video tutorials and free programs, it is possible to break into the gaming industry as an artist without ever going to college. But unless you are extraordinarily talented, you will want to go through a good art program.

Studying game art at a college or university will give you hands-on training in the same techniques and software programs used in actual studios. Working under art directors in studios also increases the capabilities of budding game artists.

Since games are digital and thus require visual elements for everything, there is a wide range of careers you can pursue as a game artist. For example, character artists are hired to create either 2D character sprites 3D character models, while environmental artists are in charge of creating the areas the player explores. The 3D environmental artist is expected to create 3D models with texture, lighting, and colour.

The demand for concept artists and illustrators is rising with the boom in the gaming industry. Regardless of the size of the game development company, the art team is an inevitable part of the organization. Now just being a part of the firm will not create personal or organizational growth. There should be teamwork and good work culture which helps to stay updated in the industry.

At Infocom, the art team is formed with a bunch of talented artists who have entered into the industry with a great passion for art. Our artists even take care of the minute details which gives life to the games.
