How Video Games Are Created

Curiosity must be lying deep inside you to know how exactly your favourite game was created. All the popular games out there in the market have been released as a product of teamwork and dedication. With the growth of technology, things are getting easier but still, creativity always takes its space.

In this blog let us look into the 4 stages of game development and see how videogames are being created. We have also made an amazing video explaining the 4 stages of game development, so you can also take a look into it.

Planning

In the planning stage, each one of the team will be coming up with their own ideas regarding a concept. With several brainstorming sessions, an idea will be taken into account and the team will then plan to proceed with that idea. Once an idea is finalized then we focus on some basic questions.

Whether it is a 2D or 3D game?

On which platform we have to develop this game?

Who all are our target audience and the features it must have.

When we are all set with answers to these questions then we look forward to the budget, the technological capabilities, the team size, estimated time frame to complete the project and also the ways for monetization.

Pre-Production

During the pre-production stage, many more ideas are added to the plans. All the updates will be clearly noted in a Game Design Document (GDD) which becomes the Bible for the game development process. With reference to the GDD, the writers and concept artists will give a visual guide of how the game would look like. If any changes are required then it will be updated in the GDD. For a better understanding of the game mechanics, game prototypes are also made to ensure whether the idea would work out or not.

Production

Now the idea starts getting its shape during the production stage where the art team will start creating the characters, the environment and other details necessary to bring life into the game. The programmers will be preparing the source code which enables character movement and other gestures of the game. Meanwhile, sound engineers will create background music and voice-overs based on the requirement of the game. The Game Producer and project leads will take care of completing the assigned tasks on time. They conduct regular scrum meetings to ensure there are no delays for the project.

Post-production

Now when the game has finally taken a shape, it’s to time check for its quality or performance level. The Quality Assurance (QA) team and the Testers will ensure the game is bug-free and everything has been done with reference to the GDD. Once everything is perfect, the marketing team will start promoting the game. They will be creating pre-release posters, teasers or other activities which creates anticipation among the audience. For big-budget games, it would be only released to tier I countries after the beta release to check the response from the audience. Later on, the game will be officially released worldwide.

These are the standard set of stages followed by most of the popular game development companies. We have built a team of experts who can analyze the nature of the game and develop one to beat its current version. For game development enquiries you can come in contact with our team anytime.
